Mongolia is a remote country with unpredictable weather and an underdeveloped infrastructure. It is therefore most important that you come prepared. Learn as much as you can about travel in Mongolia before you set out, and in that way you should be set to enjoy your vacation to the full.

Mongolia remains one of the last great adventure destinations in Asia. Located between China and Russia, it is three times the size of France, yet with a population of only 3.4 million is one of the most sparsely inhabited countries in the world. It is also one of the highest countries in the world with an average elevation of 1580 metres - the highest peak Tavanbogd Uul at 4374 metres has a magnificent glacier that towers over Mongolia, Russia and China. Between the peaks lay austere deserts but elsewhere Mongolia has numerous saltwater and freshwater lakes, the largest of which is Lake Hovsgol. The Mongolian climate is extreme with long sub-arctic winters. But, with over 260 sunny days a year, it is also known as the 'Land of the Blue Sky'.

Friendly advice: When traveling to Mongolia, it is important to take into account the vast cultural and language differences between that of your nation and Mongolia. It is possible to travel through Western Mongolia without the use of a travel service, but it is strongly recommended that you use the services of a travel agent for your own convenience and safety. Mongolia is experiencing rapid economic, political, and cultural changes, but is still very much closed to foreigners in the way that mobility through the country and access to certain amenities can be very difficult for a non-Mongolian speaker. By using a travel service such as ours (Kazakh Tours LLC), you can be ensured that your travel through Mongolia will be smooth and easy, and that you will experience Mongolia without having to deal with the frustrations and inconvenience with language and cultural barriers that you will experience if you elect not to use a travel service.

Traveling within Mongolia by car

You can either rent a vehicle or hire a car with driver from tour operator. We recommend to get a car with driver because infrastructure is not developed in Mongolia, therefore you can easily get lost even if you have GPS, or maps and the roadish trails can break your car unless you can fix it by yourself. Russian Vans are the most used 4 wheel drive vehicles among Mongolia, however for your comfort it is better to travel with Toyota Land Cruisers.

Hitch hiking

Cars can pick up you if you are hitch hiking, but expect to pay money. if you do not want to pay any money you should explain this at the beginning otherwise at the end of your journey you could have problem with the driver.

Horse- Camels

You may have to use horses to get from one place to another, but never plan to ride more than 5 hours a day or approximately 10-12 miles. Even if you used to ride horses, you would have a great sour on your legs and butt on the second and third days. 😉
